Growing Together: Acera’s New Greenhouse

Acera Greenhouse

By Trent Ramsey

What began as a student’s idea has blossomed into a brand-new, school-wide resource. Several years ago, an IMP project led to the creation of Acera’s first greenhouse — a small but mighty structure that quickly became a gardening hub and a catalyst for raised beds and gardening around the school. Over time, that first greenhouse served our community well, but as it began to wear down, the need for a larger, more durable space became clear.

Thanks to the generosity of our graduating classes of 2024 and 2025 and funds from last Spring’s Love to Learn, we raised $15,000 to purchase Acera’s brand-new greenhouse, large enough to accommodate an entire class. Teachers across grade levels are already planning to use it for science lessons, plant studies, and new projects that connect students directly to the living world around them.

The greenhouse arrived this summer, and with patience, care, and plenty of skill, Mr. Kevin took on the challenge of construction. Over the course of two weeks — with a rotating cast of helpers — he brought hundreds of pieces together into a beautiful, light-filled structure that now sits proudly on our playground.

We’re thrilled to open this space and can’t wait to see all of the learning and creativity that will grow in this space!
