IMPposium

Below is an online gallery of student projects, organized by core classroom and listed alphabetically by student first name.  The gallery is a place to showcase the variety and creativity of Acera students in choosing a topic to explore with their mentors and content coaches. In addition, some students have opted to share photos, videos, and slide presentations. As you browse the gallery, click on each student’s project thumbnail-image to see the descriptive media (slides, photos, and/or video) they have submitted.

A hallmark of Acera’s Upper School program, IMP Projects are critical drivers of intrinsic motivation. Students can propose any project they are passionate about, researching and writing a literature review, building a computer, organizing a service project, conducting a lab experiment, developing a video game or app, or creating a piece of electronic art. Every week, students have blocks of time to design, create, problem solve, and iterate on a project of their choosing, while concurrently learning project management skills.

Twice a year, dozens of Acera students showcase their Inquiry, Maker and Passion Projects at the school’s IMPposium. These are exciting and engaging events for the Acera community.

IMP projects are a way for kids to get excited about something, to find a mentor who can help them learn about the thing that they want to learn about, and create something that makes them feel proud. This fosters a sense of purpose that motivates them to want to improve in specific skill areas, because they are bringing alive something that’s important to them!
