For this year’s IMPp project, I have been starting work on a battle vest. A battle vest is a DIY, often punk, decorated garment, and tends to be a highly personal thing. These one of a kind pieces include pins, patches, studs, and other such elements, often sporting political statements and band logos. It also tends to be created using found, already owned, second hand, and upcycled materials, as well as including things from small or local businesses. The whole idea is taking what you have access to and making it your own, making it a statement. I myself do not exclusively belong to the punk scene, so the vest will incorporate elements from other subcultures as well as its punk roots. All in all, its a form of self expression, and expression of rights and beliefs, and expression of freedom. This is also the first time I’ve done any project of this kind, so the details of the project are revealing themselves as it progresses. The images provided are some of my journal pages, and pictures of the vest itself marked with where things will go, and both give you a look as to what the process has been like.
