Emi Neuwalder

Math Specialist Teacher

Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Computer Science, Smith College, 2025

An Acera alum (Class of 2017), Emi is excited to return as a Math Specialist after completing studies in Mathematics and Computer Science at Smith College. During Emi’s time at Smith, she completed two research fellowships in Mathematics, along with a fellowship at MIT’s Summer Geometry Initiative. Emi has been passionate about coding since 8th grade, spending more than 450 hours building skills, and tackling creative problem-solving challenges. Teaching has been a longstanding interest—in fact, Emi began informally tutoring peers in 5th grade and has been thinking deeply about pedagogy ever since.

Outside of academics, Emi brings creativity and discipline from pursuits including biking, singing in choirs, sewing, origami, crochet, knitting, and yarn spinning. Whether in math, coding, or hobbies, Emi is always eager to engage with problems that require curiosity and creativity more than rote knowledge. In her first year teaching, Emi is being mentored by our head of school, Dr. Heather Pinedo-Burns.
